A youth in Pallisa District narrowly survived being lynched by an angry mob after he was allegedly caught engaging in sexual intercourse with a cow, an incident that has left residents of Olwakai Village in shock.
The suspect has been identified as John Olupot, a resident of Olwakai Village in Kadesok Parish, Opwateta Sub-county. He is accused of committing the act with a cow belonging to a man only identified as Kemba, also a resident of the same area.
According to the Olwakai Village LC1 Chairperson, James Omoit, the alleged incident occurred in a cassava garden within the village.
Omoit explained that after the alleged act, the suspect reportedly left the scene and went to Konyamatunga Trading Centre, seemingly unaware that some people had witnessed him while he was with the cow.
“The witnesses reported the matter to me, and we immediately traced the suspect at Konyamatunga Trading Centre and brought him back to the scene,” Omoit said.
He added that upon returning to the garden, local leaders and residents found a large section of cassava plants slashed down, raising suspicion about what had taken place.
“When we examined the suspect, we also found hair believed to be from the cow on his private parts,” Omoit added.
According to the LC1 chairperson, the suspect reportedly admitted to the act during questioning and pleaded for forgiveness from community members who had gathered at the scene.
However, the cow’s owner, Kemba, called for calm and urged residents to allow proper investigations before taking any action.
“Let investigations be done first. If he is found guilty, he will compensate me with a cow,” Kemba said, noting that the suspect might have confessed under pressure as the mob had threatened to lynch him.
The incident sparked outrage among residents of Olwakai Village, many of whom condemned the alleged act and described it as shameful and unacceptable within the community.
Some residents questioned why the suspect would engage in such behaviour despite the presence of many women in the community, while others suggested that authorities should assess his mental health, arguing that he could be suffering from a psychological condition.
Local leaders have since urged residents to remain calm and allow the matter to be handled through the proper legal process rather than resorting to mob justice.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further as the community awaits clarity on the shocking allegations.
