SOROTI — Psalms 23 Nursery and Primary School, a newly established learning institution in Soroti, has intensified efforts to empower pupils with foundational knowledge and holistic skills aimed at improving academic performance and preparing learners for future success.

The school officially launched its Term II Children’s Conference on May 21, 2026, at the school premises, bringing together pupils, teachers, and parents in a program designed to strengthen learning, personal growth, and life skills development.
School administrators say the conference is part of broader efforts to promote quality education by equipping children with practical skills, confidence, discipline, and a strong academic foundation.
Speaking during the event, the Headteacher of Psalms 23 Nursery and Primary School, Simon Edweu, explained that the institution is committed to holistic child development through programs that focus on both academics and personal wellbeing.
“Holistic development through these conferences focuses on equipping pupils with a blend of essential skills, academic knowledge, and proper wellbeing so that they can realize their ambitions,” Edweu said.
According to the headteacher, the conferences provide pupils with an opportunity to critically assess their own work, identify their strengths, and understand areas where improvement is needed.
“Preparing for the conference helps pupils analyze their work, identify their strengths, and pinpoint areas that require development,” he noted.
Edweu emphasized that primary education forms the foundation of a child’s academic journey and therefore requires special attention to ensure learners are well prepared for future challenges.
“Primary level is the foundation of education, and these conferences provide a structured environment where pupils can establish realistic and actionable goals for their next grading period,” he explained.
The school administration believes that combining academic learning with mentorship, life skills, and emotional development can significantly improve learner confidence and performance.
Meanwhile, teacher Mandole Cosmas said the children’s conference also plays a critical role in exposing pupils to mentorship opportunities and practical learning experiences beyond the classroom.
“Conferences accelerate the growth of pupils by concentrating knowledge, networking, and real-world strategies in one place,” Cosmas said.
He added that the sessions provide a unique environment where learners can interact directly with experienced teachers and mentors who guide them through their educational journey.
“These conferences allow pupils to learn directly from experienced teachers and receive guidance tailored to their educational development,” he explained.
Cosmas further noted that mentorship and exposure are important in shaping children’s ambitions, discipline, and confidence at an early age.
Parents and community members who attended the conference applauded the school for prioritizing holistic education and learner empowerment.
Some parents expressed optimism that the initiative would help children improve academically while also developing good morals, communication skills, and confidence.
Education stakeholders in Soroti have increasingly emphasized the importance of combining classroom learning with practical life skills and mentorship programs to prepare learners for a competitive future.
As Psalms 23 Nursery and Primary School continues to grow, school leaders say they remain committed to nurturing responsible, disciplined, and academically strong learners capable of contributing positively to society.
