Police Probe Attempted Mob Murder in Pallisa After Officers Attacked During Night Arrest

Police in Pallisa District have launched investigations into an attempted murder case following a violent mob attack on law enforcement officers during an overnight operation in Ajepet Village, Gogonyo Sub-county.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 21, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Information received by the Officer in Charge of Uganda Police Force Gogonyo Police Station, Inspector Frederick Ochamuna, indicates that Detective Constable Tasyoma Isma and a team of officers had booked out to arrest suspects linked to political violence and assault.

While executing the operation, the officers were reportedly confronted and obstructed by a group of residents. During the confrontation, DC Isma was allegedly struck on the head with a panga, sustaining injuries.

Inspector Ochamuna responded to a distress call to reinforce his colleagues. However, upon arrival, he too was reportedly attacked by the same group, who attempted to disarm him of his firearm.

In the struggle to retain control of the weapon, Ochamuna discharged warning shots, injuring three of the suspected attackers.

Police further revealed that amid the chaos, a magazine from Ochamuna’s firearm went missing, while DC Isma’s gun was temporarily seized by members of the mob. The firearm was later recovered by the Gogonyo Sub-county Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) and returned to police.

The District Police Commander for Pallisa, Superintendent Patience Namara, led a team to the scene following the report registered under reference PALLISA SD 03/21/02/2026.

DC Isma was rushed to Ebenezer Medical Center in Pallisa Town Council for treatment, while the three injured suspects were admitted to Pallisa Hospital. All are said to be in stable condition and receiving medical care.

Speaking on the matter, Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the incident and emphasized that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved.

“We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for attacking our officers are brought to justice,” Kyempasa said.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security agencies and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, warning that mob justice endangers both civilians and officers.
