Police in Pallisa District have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a four-year-old girl and left her parents seriously injured.
The crash occurred on February 22, 2026, at about 7:20pm at Limoto along the Tirinyi–Pallisa Road, according to a traffic report registered at Uganda Police Force – Pallisa Police Station under reference TAR 13/2026.
The deceased has been identified only as Sauya, who died instantly at the scene.
Her father, Wabwire Abdul, 37, a peasant and resident of Katome East in Boliso I Sub-county, sustained critical injuries along with the child’s mother, whose identity had not been immediately confirmed by press time.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the family was riding on a bicycle toward Tirinyi when an unidentified motor vehicle, reportedly traveling from the Pallisa side in the same direction, knocked them at Limoto before speeding away.
The injured victims were rushed to Pallisa General Hospital for emergency medical treatment, while the body of the deceased was taken home pending a postmortem examination.
The scene was visited by the Officer in Charge of Traffic, IP Immaculate Chekwoti, accompanied by Sgt Fred Mutono. Police photographed the scene, though a sketch plan could not be drawn due to poor visibility at night. The damaged bicycle was later secured at the residence of the LC1 chairperson as investigations continue.
Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson, condemned reckless driving, noting that negligence and lack of concentration on the road are major contributors to preventable accidents.
He urged motorists and riders to remain alert and exercise caution at all times to safeguard lives.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the unidentified driver as inquiries into the exact cause of the accident continue.
