Pallisa Business Community Gets Extension to Meet Trade Standards

By Alfred Opio

Traders in Pallisa Town Council have been granted additional time to reorganise their businesses following an extension of the earlier deadline issued by authorities to restore order within the town.

The extension follows a joint decision by town council leaders and security agencies, who had initially given traders a 21-day ultimatum to comply with trade guidelines aimed at improving sanitation, business conduct, and orderly operations. The original deadline, which was set to expire on the 13th, has now been pushed to the 30th, giving traders more time to meet the required standards.

The decision was reached during an engagement meeting that brought together town officials, security personnel, and members of the business community. The meeting provided a platform for traders to raise concerns about the challenges they faced in meeting the initial deadline.

Speaking during the meeting, Town Clerk Jude Aisu said the extension was granted after traders formally appealed, citing logistical and financial constraints.

“We listened to the concerns of our traders and realized that some of them needed more time to reorganise their businesses in line with the guidelines. This extension is meant to ensure a smoother and more cooperative process.”

He emphasized that the additional time should be used effectively, warning that it should not be seen as an excuse to delay compliance.

Meanwhile, the District Police Commander, Patience Namara, cautioned that enforcement will be inevitable once the new deadline lapses.

“The business community requested more time, and it has been granted. We now expect full compliance. If some individuals choose to resist, we shall be left with no option but to enforce the law.”

Namara urged traders to work closely with authorities to maintain order, noting that a well-organized town benefits both businesses and residents.

The District Business Chairperson, James Okurut, welcomed the extension, describing it as a relief for many traders who were struggling to comply within the initial timeline.

“This is an opportunity that we must not waste. Let us organize our businesses, follow the guidelines, and avoid unnecessary confrontations with authorities.”

He also encouraged unity among traders, emphasizing that compliance would improve the town’s image and attract more customers and investment.

The move to enforce trade order in Pallisa Town Council is part of broader efforts by local authorities to enhance urban management, improve sanitation, and ensure that businesses operate within designated areas.

Officials believe that a well-regulated trading environment will not only reduce congestion but also boost economic activity and improve service delivery.

As the extended deadline approaches, attention now turns to the business community to see whether they will meet the expectations set by authorities. With clear warnings from security agencies and calls for cooperation from leaders, the coming weeks are expected to be critical in shaping the future of trade operations in Pallisa Town Council.
