Muslims in Agule County have expressed gratitude after receiving a donation of 100 kilograms of sugar from former parliamentary candidate Herbert Okello Aica during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
The donation was handed over at Okunguro Mosque, where members of the Muslim community had gathered for prayers and fellowship.
Speaking during the handover, Okello said the gesture was part of his commitment to continue supporting the community despite losing in the recently concluded elections.
“Not winning an election does not mean one should abandon the people. That would show a leader only has political interests,” he said. “I will remain committed to serving and supporting my community whenever possible.”
Okello urged residents to put aside political differences and focus on unity and development, emphasizing that the election period was over and the time had come for collective efforts to improve livelihoods in Agule County.
“Agule needs people to unite in order to bring meaningful development,” he emphasized.
While addressing the congregation, Okello also called on families to promote peace, unity, and faithfulness in their homes, saying these values are central to the teachings of Ramadan.
He encouraged believers to embrace love, sharing, and spiritual purification during the fasting period and beyond.
Okello further used the opportunity to educate the community about the importance of proper conduct during fasting, urging them to uphold strong moral and religious values even after the holy month ends.
He also stressed the importance of education, calling upon parents to take their children to school so they can benefit from government programs and contribute to community development.
“There is no society that can develop without education,” he noted.
Members of the Muslim community welcomed the donation with appreciation, describing it as a rare gesture from a leader who continues to stand with his people even after an electoral loss.
They pledged to embrace Okello’s advice and put it into practice for the betterment of their families and the wider community.
