Launch of BKK Ferry Operations at Akampala Landing Site Postponed

0

The much-anticipated launch of the BKK Ferry operations at Akampala Landing Site in Kaberamaido District has been postponed to a later date following unfavorable weather conditions.

The ferry was initially scheduled to begin operations on Friday, March 6, 2026, marking its first official route to the landing site.

However, according to the Kaberamaido Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, the planned launch has been delayed due to heavy rainfall that disrupted the compaction works at the docking point.

Nyakahuma explained that the persistent rains have made the docking area extremely slippery, making it unsafe to begin ferry operations.

“The docking point is currently very slippery due to the heavy rainfall, and it is not safe to start operational activities at the moment,” Nyakahuma said.

He added that engineers are working to stabilize the docking area to ensure that the landing site is safe for both passengers and ferry operations.

Nyakahuma assured the public that a new date for the ferry’s inaugural landing at Akampala Landing Site will be communicated soon once the situation improves.

He also urged residents and travelers who were anticipating the ferry services to remain calm and patient as authorities work to address the challenges caused by the weather.

The BKK Ferry is expected to significantly improve water transport and connectivity for communities around Lake Kyoga once it becomes operational.

Local leaders believe the ferry service will boost trade, ease transportation challenges, and enhance social and economic activities between Kaberamaido and neighboring districts.
