The Resident District Commissioner of Kumi District, John Bosco Mubito, has warned public institutions against the misuse of government resources, emphasizing strict monitoring to ensure that all support provided by government reaches its intended beneficiaries.
Mubito made the remarks during the distribution of iron sheets and other materials to institutions in Kumi Municipality, where he reiterated his office’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in public service.
According to Mubito, the RDC’s office plays a critical role in overseeing government programs to ensure that resources allocated to communities are properly utilized.
“One of the reasons why our office is involved is to monitor and make sure there is proper utilisation. The support should go to the purpose for which it was requested,” Mubito said. “We are here to fight corruption.”
He stressed that government offices will not tolerate theft or mismanagement of public resources, noting that every opportunity provided by government should directly benefit citizens, particularly in key sectors such as education where many institutions still require support.
“There is no room for thieves or thugs in our government offices. Every small opportunity is a gain on behalf of the people,” he added.
Mubito further cautioned that institutions receiving government assistance must ensure that the materials are used responsibly, warning that misuse could result in future support being withheld.
“If we come and find the things being put to good use, that is the best reward you can give the government,” he said.
He also noted that the government is continuing to invest in improving learning environments for both students and teachers across the country.
“If we continue following proper government guidelines, Uganda is going to be transformed,” Mubito emphasized.
The RDC called on citizens to support government leadership and development initiatives aimed at improving service delivery in communities.
During the event, Mubito commended several departments within Kumi Municipality for their performance, singling out the works department, the mayor’s office and the commercial office for their commitment to service delivery.
“The works department, the mayor and the commercial office are doing well. Many departments in the municipality are now examples for others to emulate,” he said.
He added that the public distribution of the iron sheets was meant to promote transparency and prevent misinformation regarding the use of government resources.
Institutions were urged to manage the materials responsibly, noting that misuse could affect not only their operations but also the chances of other institutions seeking similar government support in the future.
