Katakwi Clergy Urged to Uphold Ethical Conduct, Decency, and Accountability

0

KATAKWI — Clergy and church leaders in Katakwi Parish have been urged to uphold high standards of ethical conduct, dress decently, and remain accountable in their service to the church and community.

The call was made by the Archdeacon of St Paul Anglican Church, Katakwi Parish, Rev. Gabriel Thomas Okwi, during a pastoral visit to Aleles Church of Uganda in Akoboi Sub-county.

Rev. Okwi expressed concern over what he described as increasing cases of indecent dressing among some lay readers, warning that such behavior undermines the dignity of the church.

He emphasized that church leaders must present themselves in a respectable manner and avoid dressing that does not reflect the values and expectations of the religious institution.

The Archdeacon also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in handling church funds, particularly offertory and thanksgiving contributions. He warned that misuse of such funds amounts to theft and carries serious moral and spiritual consequences.

Rev. Okwi further cautioned clergy against engaging in partisan politics, noting that such involvement often creates division and confusion within the church. He urged religious leaders to remain focused on their spiritual responsibilities and maintain neutrality.

In addition, he called on Christians to respect church leaders and maintain appropriate boundaries, warning that excessive familiarity may expose clergy to moral challenges.

Meanwhile, the Archdeacon issued a stern warning to residents, especially the wealthy, against encroaching on church and school land. This follows an incident in Teibong where a resident allegedly altered boundary markings and encroached on land belonging to Teibong Primary School.

He described such actions as unacceptable and warned that tampering with institutional land could have serious consequences for individuals and communities.

Rev. Okwi urged clan leaders to sensitize communities on the importance of protecting church and school property, emphasizing that these institutions serve the common good.

He concluded by calling for discipline, integrity, and respect among both church leaders and the wider community, noting that strong moral values are essential for building a united and responsible society.
