Breaking News: Dr Wanyama Judas Tadeo elected Eastern Uganda Youth member of Parliament

Dr. Wanyama Judas Thadeo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been elected the Eastern Uganda Youth Member of Parliament following elections held at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Mbale campus.

Dr. Wanyama emerged victorious after securing 1,174 votes, defeating several contenders in a competitive race that attracted youth leaders and delegates from across the Eastern Uganda region. The election was conducted under tight security and proceeded peacefully, underscoring the growing involvement of young people in national democratic and leadership processes.

In his victory address, Dr. Wanyama expressed gratitude to the youth for the confidence placed in him and pledged to effectively represent their interests in Parliament. He emphasized his commitment to advocating for policies that promote youth empowerment, job creation, skills development, and increased participation of young people in governance.

“This victory belongs to the young people of Eastern Uganda,” Dr. Wanyama said. “I am committed to being a strong and accountable voice for the youth and to working with all stakeholders to ensure that young people are placed at the center of national development.”

Leaders of the NRM, along with various youth representatives, welcomed the outcome of the election, describing Dr. Wanyama as a focused and experienced leader with the capacity to articulate youth concerns at the national level. They expressed optimism that his leadership will enhance youth representation and strengthen the implementation of government programs aimed at addressing challenges facing young people.

Dr. Wanyama’s election comes at a critical time when youth-related issues—particularly unemployment, entrepreneurship support, and access to quality education—remain high on Uganda’s national development agenda. His tenure is expected to prioritize bridging the gap between existing government initiatives and the practical needs of young people across Eastern Uganda.

Observers noted that the peaceful conduct of the elections reflects increasing maturity among youth leaders and a shared commitment to democratic principles. The strong turnout also highlighted the importance young people attach to having effective representation in Parliament.

The Electoral Commission is expected to formally gazette the election results in due course, paving the way for Dr. Wanyama to officially assume office as the Eastern Uganda Youth Member of Parliament.
